Subject: Plant Gene Followup
This week a group of protesters in Britain when to a cornfield that was testing the methods we have been talking about and started scything down the plants. More than several people were arrested.

Subject: British
The Brits seem to be more concerned about antibiotics in the meat, hormones in the milk and gene alteration of plants. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm It makes one wonder doesn't it? Are we all so busy with our daily life that the concern they have is not such an issue here in the states.Lou

Subject: British/Baby Food
Lou, I too wonder about that--how certain countries/cultures seem to have or find more time for contemplation and careful consideration. In the case of britain, those people have been around the block a few times, so to speak, compared to our relatively "adolescent" country. Maybe we should take a hint before it's too late.

In the meantime, it turns out that Gerber, the famed maker of baby food here in the US, has instituted a policy of not using genetically altered vegetables in their products. To me, that is a very powerful statement from a very influential company.

Subject: Baby Food and Wellness
Actually, Lou, you are right on target here. Many people have begun to use pure, unadulterated baby food in their cooking in very creative ways, especially folks on no-fat diets. For instance, baby food prunes are often used as a substitute for fat in brownies, and apricots work fine too as a sweetener for, say, apple pie (instead of the sugar).

While I do not always make these substitutions, I do have a stock of baby food on hand. Funny thing is, it disappears real fast, and not because I am using it in my baking--the girls eat it as a snack! Guess it must bring back fond memories or something.

Subject: Speaking of Food
Most people are deluged with tomatoes these days, but can you imagine a tomato plant higher than the average house and yielding untold pounds of these "love apples" (as they were originally called--were thought to be an aphrodisiac, I guess)? I recently read somewhere about such a huge plant holding the Guinness Record. I was quite astonished to also read that the man who won it uses only organic methods to grow his tomatoes. Maybe one of our web surfers can fill in the details here.

Subject: Closing of Cleveland Freenet
I just was visiting the Fountain Square Forum (see our links section here on CP) and found out that the original freenet, Cleveland, will be closing on September 1. This news is so sad to me, but I am not weeping or anything. Rather, I find myself remembering a place I was in during the mid-seventies. We did our work then and people's attentions moved elsewhere. However, the work we did then was not without ultimate reward: witness the burgeoning interest in natural foods and alternative spiritual orientations. In so remembering, I am comforted by the thought that the work we did with and through TSO will not be for naught. Matter of fact, it will be rather exciting to see what permutations persist to exist!

Interesting historical anecdote...a few years ago rennovators of a house in New England found, hidden in a mantle, a confession of a British spy, admitting that he had killed George Washington..by putting tomatoes in his food

Subject: Re: love apples
As far fetched as that may sound, bardic, it might have some veracity since tomatoes (as well as eggplant and potatoes), are a member of the deadly nightshade family of plants. Matter of fact, many Oriental people won't eat them as a result, and if you are macrobiotic, well forget it! Those fruits (aka vegies) are definitely taboo. In thinking about this, I go back to that book called "Eat Right For Your Type" which we discussed for a while on CP TSO style. Some studies have shown that B- blood type people have a hard time assimilating this family of foods. Hmmm...wonder what type good ol' George W. was.

Then again, persuant to our discussion about natural and unnatural genetic engineering, maybe over the generations we as humans developed immunity to these foods which were once poisonous to us. Indeed, this family is now touted as healthy as can be. In your wanderings, have you found why they were called "love apples"?

Subject: Cleveland Freenet
In Thursday's Post there is a small article about the demise of the Cleveland Freenet. According to the article the freenet will shut down on October 1, due to the anticipated incompatibility to the Y2K bug. I guess it would have cost too much to make it compatible with Y2K According to the article it was started in 1984 at Case Western Reserve.

Subject: Love Apples
Some people have a allergic reaction to members of the nightshade family. My brother was hospitalized after eating egg plant ( he developed a rapid heart beat). I don't know if it already had something to do with a previous condition of a irregular heart beat.In the 1950's tomatoes in the South were infected with small microscopic worms called nematodes which damaged the roots and eventually the whole plant. Some enterprising scientist decided to graft tomatoes onto jimson weed plants which are resistant. The alkaloids which are present in the jimson wed and and which are poisonous actually were translocated to the fruit which became slightly poisonous.

Subject: Eclipse watching
If you don't have tickets for a Black Sea cruise for tomorrow's solar eclipse, coverage will start at 6am on the Discovery Channel. I have read lots of "stuff" on the internet about what people think this eclipse will bring...everything from UFO's to Atilla the Hun returning. As someNostradamus watchers will tell you, it's time for his prediction of a great Terror from the sky. Some think this might be the close encounter with the Cassini Space probe that will be passing by earth on its way to saturn. Somedescribe the Grand Cross as being Earth's crucifixion...the cross supposedly follows the same path across earth as the Cassini probe and also the same path that the planes took to bomb Serbia. Personally, I don't know much about that stuffand I guess I think it's a bit more dramatic than what will result. Tomorrow will come and go and Dracula's return (Romania's legend) will not be evident. The interpretation that I put my money on is the one of a great Awakening and initiation for the Earth. According to Gloria D. Karpinski in _Where Two Worlds Touch_,"The awakening is the breakthrough-- the insight that brings the critical shift from the old to the new."She goes on to say,"Part of our readiness for awakening is to trust in whatever we perceive God to be, to trust in our own life's plan, to trust that we are totally connected to everything else in the universe. Trust is the universal law of attraction. It's at this point that we begin to understand that we don't have to beg, shove, or manipulate the universe - we only have to relax into our place in it."

Kit,

I agree with you. More later today as I receive further information. One thing I can say now is that these energies are not like an atomic bomb or something, despite what the sensationalists would have us believe. Rather, they have been building up for some time and are culminating tomorrow. Matter of fact, this past weekend was quite transformative for many people, especially regarding shifts in orientation toward self and others.

Tomatoes are also on a list of foods that stimulates your histamines. So if your allergies are on a rampage, you probably would not want to eat too many tomatoes. Right???

Subject: Eclipse Details
The eclipse will occur at 7:03 AM EDT tomorrow morning, followed quickly by a new moon at 7:09 AM EDT. No big deal, normally, but the planetary interactions right now are intense in a rare (but not unprecedented) way. Uranus (the planet of inspiration, genius and catastrophic change) is opposing this eclipse. Saturn (the planet of stability and also sorrow) is joining the dance, as is Mars, which triggers action, whether positive or negative. These planets are all hovering around 18 degrees of the Fixed signs, as those of you are astrologically savvy know. As such, they are affecting the very foundation of all that we baby boomers as a generation have held near and dear regarding our own stability and security. In addition, anyone who has planets at or around 0-1-2 of the Cardinal signs will be feeling this energy as well, going by the scientifically researched 8th harmonic system. So. Check out your charts. Remember that universal energy is not only neutral but also interactive. We are not at the mercy of any energy but our own, when all is said and done. Arc these energies high...

Now, for those of you to whom the above was gibberish at best and nonsense at worst, there is something going on globally tomorrow that makes sense to me, even if planetary motion has nothing to do with our lives here on Earth (which I can't imagine, but whatever). A group of spiritual people have declared tomorrow as a Day of Universal Forgiveness. Sounds like a good idea to me, but certainly one that is hard to implement on a global level, given what happened today out in LA again. I cannot even begin to describe my feelings about this recent and senseless atrocity. So what I am going to do is start small, and REALLY finally forgive someone who hurt me very deeply in the past.

And, as I enter this process, I realize that I have a lot of forgiving of myself to do too, which is something many of us brought up in this Western Tradition have never been taught and really have no reference for.

Well, what can I say but Happy Eclipse, everyone?! And also, not to worry...

Subject: Forgiveness visualization
This visualization is from _Where Two Worlds Touch_, by Gloria Karpinski: The Stairway of Golden LightCreate a beautiful meadow in your mind and see yourself there with someone you're having difficulty forgiving. Don't deny your feelings. Just let them be whatever they are. As you look at the person, you might want to review all the unhappy circumstances of your relationship. Now, turn around. See the golden stairway right behind you. Slowly begin mounting the first of seven steps. Be deliberate and conscious with each step. Feel the warmth that is enveloping you. As you move up each stair, the warmth grows. Now, look up. At the top of the stairs see the radiant being whose hands are outstretched to you. As you near the top, this being reaches out to help you up the last part of the climb. As you stand there hand and hand, the being looks deeply into your eyes and then embraces you. You realize that everything you have ever done is known to this being and completely accepted. You are loved unconditionally. Allow yourself to accept this fully. Recognize the healing taking place. As you step back from the embrace, see that you, too, are aglow with the golden Light. Now, turn and look down the stairs to the unforgiven person standing at the bottom. What does the person look like from here? Can you see the humanness, the vulnerability of this person? Are you willing to share the healing that has just been given to you? Then walk down the stairs, take the person's hands in yours, look into his or her eyes and, seeing everything, choose love with the simple words "I forgive you."Such an exercise, sincerely done, is no fantasy. You are actually beginning to alter the energy between you and the other person. Event by event, person by person, disappointment by disappointment, we set the alchemy of conscious change in motion. In the beginning we make the choice to release personal injustices. By practicing our spiritual crafts, we will in time be able to release the shadows in the collective mind until one day we, too, can say with total clarity, "Forgive them, they know not what they do."

Subject: "Brave New World"
Topics that we have been discussing on CP in its many forms have now been apparently merited by the media to have some kind of commercial value, as is evidenced by ABC's current special which has been going on for 2 weeks now. The first one was OK; the second one better: we'll see what the rest of the 6 segments are like. Check it out. Thursday night, CH9 in the TriState, 10:00 PM on the program called Nightline on Primetime.

I meant the Cincinnati festival Mir:) And you would have seen me indeed...although not on stage. All of the clan were there..as was the lead singer from the new group "Tangled Woods"..which did lead to some err..ticklish moments, in that the lead singer is a very, VERY attractive redhead. For those who did miss it, twas not all music and ale..there was also a recreation site of turn of the (last)millenium Erin and a display of ancient nonchristian practises.
