Subject: quotes
Every once in awhile one comes across a quote that just can't be pigeonholed. Perhaps if I read the source it cam from? but the quote is "Maps are a way of organising wonder"

Subject: Quotes/Maps
Hmmm...typically, bardic, in a sentence you open a whole new arena of thought. Here is another quote: "Make me no maps, sir, my head is a map, a map of the world." Of course here my assumption is that this dude (Fielding) is speaking of his inner space, rather than coming from a phrenological POV.

Subject: Dalai Lama
Is anyone joining the pilgrimage to be in the presence of this person? Plenty of my friends are. Oh--for anyone who is interested, the reason he visits Bloomington is that his brother is a member of the Zen Retreat Center there (see our CP Links page for further info).

Subject: cloning
Kristina,Did you watch the tv show last night? It was about human cloning........................fun for the wealthy. All in all, it will have some good and some bad come from cloning humans.Lou

Subject: "Brave New World" Show
Yes, Lou, I did catch it and my thought about the "wealthy" is this:if such info has trickled down to the masses such engineering has been going on among the ultra upper crust for some time now.

I was particularly moved by the dwarf segment wherein a very wealthy and successful Little Person expressed his concerns. Another thing that blew me away is that, typically it seems, just like we used to do on TSO we sure scooped that show with our discussion here on CP.

Subject: cloning
I for one would not want myself cloned. I much prefer the thought,as a writer, to launch ideas out to fertile spaces

Subject: New Religion in China
My friend Emily publishes a newsletter (see Michael System Link here on CP)and in it she always comes up with interesting tidbits. In the recent "Michael Circle" she shares that a man named Master Li Hongzhi has started a neww religion called "Falon Gong."

"Falun Gong is a new religion in China that combines qigong exercises with a philosophy for good living...they say that there are many types of beings, visible and invisible; and that the world we see is only one of many worlds. They teach the concept of karma and the patterns of the chakras; and they teach about psychic powers yet nonattachment to them. There is a moral code of 'truthfulness, benevolence, kindness, compassion, forbearance, tolerance and endurance.' They say that teachers such as Jesus and Buddha were 'deities from separate paradises.'"

Subject: Lawsuit in Sycamore School District
Recently I was quite disturb to discover that some people in the Sycamore School District asre filing a lawsuit against the schools which have decided that school should be called off on certain Jewish Holidays. The people protesting feel that Sycamore is showing favoritism to the Jews in doing this, apparently not thinking too clearly about Christmas, etc. I am appalled at the ignorance shown here and quite frightened about the implications following the events of late in California. The ACLU is doing the litigation, and again, I am appalled that they seem not to be making the logical extrapolation of their stance.

Subject: Mass Extinction?
The CH9 "Brave New World" program tonight was about cyclical mass extinctions on our planet during the hundreds of millions of years it has existed. The most recent was that of the dinosaurs, which resulted from "natural causes". The interviewees to a number maintained that the next extinction is upon us in say 100-150 years, not caused by Nature but by us humans and our interference with natural rhythms. Interesting show but a tad simplistic, given the fact that natural catastrophes have accelerated, etc. Fascinating fact for the night: the cockroach has survived all "mass extinctions" historically, and also predates not only mammals here but also flora and lesser fauna.

Subject: Mother Mary in Norwood?
As I type upwards of 20 thousand people have gathered outside of a church in Norwood, OH of all places, to witness the "final apparition" of the Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ. Is anyone here involved in this sort of thing, or this particular event? I sure would like to hear more about it from a grass roots level...from someone who was there as opposed to the media reports.

Perhaps I lack vision or spiritual integrity, but quite frankly I rather doubt the validity of this, all the while appreciating the fact that it seems like hundreds of folks seem to need such experiences so that they can feel grounded in their faith and the future during these tumultuous times.

People from all over the country are crowding the streets of Norwood tonight. I wonder how they all got word of this gathering...I wonder what they expect...I wonder what will happen to each and every individual there this evening. Sometimes I wish that I myself had that kind of trust and what I perceive to be Blind Faith, but I don't. Still, I can wish those pilgrims well from the depths of my heart.

Along these lines, I have always wondered about such apparitions, particularly the spectacle of "stigmata". A dear friend of mine mentioned the other day that when Jesus was crucified he was pierced through the wrists, not the palms (piercing through the palms would not hold up the body, my friend said). Yet, when people, a majority of whom are women, experience stigmata physically, their palms bleed.

I wonder what this is all about, and the degree to which this sort of phenomenon has been researched or documented.

Subject: Crucifixion
I just stumbled cross this site and saw the Mary message. Referencing the message above, the Romans generally crucified people by tying them to the cross with rope. It's not bleeding that kills them, they suffocate when they can't hold themselves up any longer by their arms. If they were nailing a victim, it would be necessary to use the wrist. But, if Jesus were tied to the cross, then nailed as extra punishment, nailing thrugh the wrist wouldn't be needed. The rope would hold his weight, so they could have nailed his hands.

It is not even seen outside Columbus:) I've just been browsing it from day to day...Monday he talked about the Newark Earth Mounds, a spot I am roughly familiar with, in that most of my real time life takes place there

Subject: Newark Earth Mounds
bardic, you are a tease. Tell more about these mounds. I am quite familar with the Serpent Mound and matter of fact have done some research about the mounds in our area. There used to be a mound just outside of Glendale (called the "Woodlawn Mound") upon which now sits the Goodwill store. Hmmm. And, I have been to that wonderful mound outside of Chillicothe--have you? Masquerades as a roadside stop these days. There is a wee mound on my land. But of the Newark Mounds i know nothing. How old are they? Which people made them? Suppected purpose? For some reason the mounds really excit me.

Subject: Mounds
I've heard of the Newark mounds, but I've never been there. I've been to the Serpent mound and to Chillicothe, also to a mound south of Wheeling, WV in....Moundsville, WV. The latter is not nearly as impressive as the first two, but I believe that they were all made by the same general group. At the Moundsville museum, they have a small scale reproduction of mounds that were present in the area when the white man arrived. The mounds were *everywhere*. Simple mounds, but everywhere. Since Native Americans belief that their bones should reside in the earth, I wonder how many restless spirts are due to the desctruction of those mounds. What do Native Americans in general believe happens to those whose graves are desecrated? It seems to me that I saw a few small mounds in a local park when I first moved here. Perhaps East Fork Lake? Just remembered that there was a long tall mound on the road to either Serpent Mound or Chillicothe. I can't remember if it was used for burials, and the settlement beside the mound is being excavated. It was in the AAA book - now if I can only find the book...

Subject: Mounds: Part 2
I'm sure that you folks aren't suprised that I searched and found some links. I went to Google and searched on "mound builders indian" and found some interesting sites.

Mounds and Mound Builders mentions the Grave Creek Mound, the one I saw in WV. It's the largest conical mound, 62 feet high (originally 70 feet) and 240 feet in diameter. Another interesting page is at Prehistoric People of the Kanawha Valley. West Virginia Mounds has links to other mounds. I couldn't find the main page for the mound stuff at this site. Then there's Serpent Mound.

Hutchison Research Center has a Missouri focus. Click on the Table of Contents. There are some interesting webrings accessible from here.

Have you heard of the Pre-Clovis theories? According to "traditional" archeology, Clovis was the first Native American group to arive in the Americas, 11,oo years ago. I grew up 20-30 miles from one of the archeology sites to disprove it - Meadowcroft Village. Artifacts may be 17,000 years old there. I was at the Univ. of Pittsburgh when Dr. Advasio was excavating that site. I wish I had taken the requisite classes to excavate one summer. When they open it to the public, I'm making a beeline there. Meadowcroft Rockshelter and U.S. News: Rediscovering America

I've rambled enough. It'll be a miracle if all of these links come out out ok. I write a fair amount of HTML by hand, but I always have to go back and fix mistakes. G'night.
